This page contains information regarding New Lead Teachers. If you are an existing Lead Teacher, information for 2007-2008 is located here.

Please take the time to review the information and schedules below before proceeding to register. The link for registration is at the bottom of this page. Also note that the registrations links will open a new window.

The Commitment by New K-5 Lead Teachers

1.       Fully participate in the special NC-PIMS 10-day Workshop: Developing School-Based Mathematics Leaders.  This workshop is specifically designed for developing Lead Teachers in mathematics.  We recommend that districts award 6 CEUs for this 60-hour professional development for the new Lead Teacher.  The 10-day workshop will be offered in each of the FSU, UNCW and ECU areas.  [Dates:  UNCW:  June 18-22, 25-29; FSU and ECU:  July 9-13, 16-20.]

2.       After completing the 10-day workshop:  Full participation in a 3-day Measurement Workshop to be offered in the ECU, FSU and UNCW service areas. [There will be 11 sections of the workshop across the NC-PIMS districts]

3.       Offer the 12-hour Measurement Workshop to teachers in her/his school during the 2007-2008 school year.

Again, please note:  New Lead Teachers must complete 10-day Leadership Workshop before participating in the 3-day Measurement Workshop.   For this commitment, the New K-5 Lead Teacher will receive a $1,500 stipend.

The Commitment by New 6-12 Lead Teachers

Provisions for training New 6-12 Lead Teachers have also been made by NC-PIMS, and District Contacts may fill these positions as needed to replace any 6-12 Lead Teacher lost to attrition in the current year.  Because of the graduate course requirement there is necessarily less flexibility in terms of the summer calendar than with K-5 Lead Teachers.  The commitment of New 6-12 Lead Teachers includes:

1.       Enroll in the 2-week Summer Leadership Training Session for New Lead Teachers at the Fayetteville State University site scheduled for June 11-15 and July 23-27.

2.       Enroll in graduate school at one of the three participating universities (ECU, FSU or UNCW) and then, enroll in the Mathematical Modeling Course that is scheduled for Fayetteville State University on the dates June 18, 20, 22; July 2, 3, 5 and 16.

3.       Enroll in the 3-day workshop Mathematical Modeling on the dates July 17-18-19 also scheduled for the Fayetteville area.

4.       Offer the 12-hour Mathematical Modeling workshop in her/his district during the 2007-2008 school year.

After successful completion of items 1-3, the New 6-12 Lead Teacher will receive a stipend of $2,500.
